  WHEN DO YOU NEED SURGERY FOR GALL STONES?  Gallstones need surgical treatment (cholecystectomy) when they cause symptoms such as  abdominal colics ( pain), nausea orvomiting.  Also, surgery is needed sometimes urgently in the case of  complications such as gallbladder inflammation, jaundice (bile duct obstruction), or pancreatitis.  Asymptomatic stones without any complaints which are noted on routine ultrasound examination during medical checkups  usually don’t need surgery.
